CLOSED March 15 for 2 Months for Repairs |
MoDOT, District 8, Springfield -- The bridge over Interstate 44 at Phillipsburg (Mile Marker 118) west of Lebanon will be CLOSED for major repairs March 15 and REOPENED by Memorial Day weekend, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
The bridge, built in 1959, carries Laclede County Route A and Route C traffic.
* The ramps into and out of Phillipsburg will be OPEN to traffic.
However, drivers who want to cross I-44 in the Phillipsburg area during construction will have to travel to the interchange at Mile Marker 123 east of Phillipsburg or Mile Marker 113 at Conway west of Phillipsburg.
* Lanes may be closed on I-44 at times during the project, but only at night -- 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
* Emergency responders, Phillipsburg residents and businesses and area schools have been notified of the bridge closing.
The project involves removing the existing bridge deck, repairing the bridge substructure, replacing expansion joints, painting the steel girders and pouring a new concrete deck.
The bridge is being repaired under MoDOT's "Safe and Sound Bridge Improvement Program." Under Safe and Sound, 802 of the worst-condition bridges around the state are being rehabilitated or replaced.
The Phillipsburg bridge project will cost $354,400. APAC-Missouri of Columbia is the prime contractor
